Urban Green: Artscarp

The Urban Green: Artscarp project at Sam Lawrence Park was a significant public art initiative launched in 2017 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Canada.

Organized by Centre[3], the exhibition transformed the park into an open-air gallery, showcasing works from various artists including C. Wells and Insoon Ha. The project aimed to engage the public with art in a natural setting, highlighting the intersection of urban life, green spaces, and cultural expression.

Situated atop the Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, Sam Lawrence Park offers panoramic views of Hamilton and has been a focal point for community engagement and cultural activities. The Urban Green: Artscarp exhibition used this unique landscape to foster dialogue about environmental stewardship and the role of public art in urban spaces.
