Artist Residency

In partnership with Martha Street Studio in Winnipeg, this annual exchange (launched 2017) sends one Centre[4]Arts member to Martha Street for a two-week residency with shared printmaking facilities — and welcomes a Martha Street artist to Hamilton in return.

Martha Street Studio is Manitoba's sole artist-run printmaking centre, offering 4,000 sq ft of production space for screen printing, intaglio, lithography, and digital printing. The exchange strengthens ties between the Hamilton and Winnipeg arts communities and gives artists new environments to develop their practice.

Launched in 2024 with support from the Canada Council for the Arts, Haptic Horizons is an immersive residency for Deaf and disabled artists working in haptic technology, developed in partnership with VibraFusionLab.

Eight artists explore this emerging field through dedicated studio time, mentorship, and inclusive resources — working across printmaking, digital art, film, audio, textile, and vibrotactile media, with technical support from in-house technicians at both organizations.

The residency was designed to foster a more inclusive arts ecosystem, encourage the creative integration of vibro-tactile and assistive technologies, and support Deaf and disabled artists in developing boundary-pushing work.

Supported by the incite Foundation for the Arts, this 12-week residency gives artists living and working in Southwestern Ontario full access to Centre[4]Arts' multidisciplinary studios in a self-directed environment.

One artist is selected each year, culminating in a group exhibition at our Members' Gallery. Open to artists at any career stage — particularly mid-career — the program provides time, space, and resources to support creative exploration and growth.

A 12-week program supporting professional artists from across Canada and around the world. Hosted at Centre[4]Arts, it offers access to our specialized studios in printmaking, digital media, and multidisciplinary art, while fostering cross-cultural exchange and engagement with the local arts community.

Artists pursue independent or project-based work with a focus on contemporary and socially engaged practices — supporting innovation and positioning Hamilton as a hub for artistic production.

A structured 12-week opportunity for artists in the early stages of their practice. With studio space, mentorship, materials, and exhibition opportunities, it offers time and resources to deepen a practice, build confidence, and expand networks in a supportive, community-oriented environment.

Open to artists with less than 5–10 years of professional experience, the residency encourages experimentation and public engagement, culminating in a group gallery exhibition at Centre[4]Arts.
