20+ Years of Artistic Innovation in Ontario
Who We Are

What We Do

Centre[4]Arts is a Hamilton-based, multidisciplinary charitable organization dedicated to advancing contemporary art as a tool for social connection, learning, and innovation.

Since 2004, our state-of-the-art studio facilities and public galleries have provided Hamilton artists with an inclusive space where experimentation and new ideas can thrive — a space that values the artistic process just as much as final outcomes.

Our arts-based educational programming and research projects are designed to create meaningful social change and open up opportunities for critical discourse within our extended community.

With support from our partners, including the City of Hamilton, the Canada Council for the Arts, and many other patrons over the years, we continue to provide high-quality studio facilities, equipment rentals, and more at affordable rates.

Why We're Here

Our Mission

Centre[4]Arts places art at the centre of community, creation, and change — supporting artists with accessible studios, inclusive programming, and socially engaged practices that foster connection, equity, and innovation.

01

Artist Development

02

Community-Engaged Social Practice

03

Education + Training

04

Arts-Based Research

Through these four core streams, we uplift artists of all abilities in creating meaningful, inclusive, and transformative experiences. This mission extends far beyond our studio walls — Centre[4]Arts initiates artistic social practices in our community, facilitates social outreach programs, and works collaboratively with businesses, schools, and other organizations to make our city a better place to live through the power of the arts.

Access for All

Accessibility

Centre[4]Arts is committed to accommodating diverse accessibility needs to the best of our ability.

Our studio locations are partially physically accessible. At 173 James St N, we provide a button-operated entrance door and an accessible main floor leading to our information desk, both galleries, an accessible washroom, the Traditional Printmaking Studio, and the Digital Studio.

The Screen Printing Studio and Media Arts Studios are limited-access, as they require the use of stairs. We are working toward becoming a more physically accessible space in the future.

Members and visitors are welcome to request assistance at any time, and we will accommodate, provided it can be done in a safe manner.
