Atelier Circulaire, Centre[4]Arts, and Martha Street Studio are proud to co-curate and co-present the A Change of Scene: The Steal This Poster Exchange exhibition.
For this project, each studio selected four local artists to design a poster with the intention that it would be stolen. The sets of poster designs were then hand-printed by local screen printers (Alison James at Martha Street Studio, Dominique Desbiens at Atelier Circulaire, Michael Schnittker at Centre[4]Arts) and exchanged with the neighbouring studios. Their prints were posted in public spaces of each city for “stealing”, playfully distributing free original artworks to communities around Hamilton, Montreal and Winnipeg.
A Change of Scene: The Steal This Poster Exchange exhibition at Centre[3] showcased all twelve poster designs, celebrating printmaking as a medium for artistic collaboration and public engagement.
The Steal This Poster initiative was started by Martha Street Studio in 2012 and was the inspiration for The Steal This Poster Exchange, which began in 2022.
