Artist Biography:
Jill Smith is a queer, Jewish multi-disciplinary artist born and based in Tkaronto/Toronto. Working primarily in sculpture, her practice explores archival properties of materials, objects, and rituals. Often working with the intersections of Judaism, feminism, and materiality, she brings together found materials and cultural signifiers to consider how we may or may not access memory.
Smith holds an MFA from the University of Waterloo and a BFA from Western University. Among others, she has exhibited at Xpace Cultural Centre, Toronto, ON; the plumb, Toronto, ON; Ed Video Media Art Centre, Guelph, ON; Forest City Gallery, London, ON; Friends and Neighbours Gallery, Montreal, QB; and has been artist-in-residence at Gibraltar Point, Toronto, ON; AGA LAB, Amsterdam, NL.
