Introduction to Traditional Printmaking: The Multi-Process Studio

This course offers an immersive, hands-on introduction to the versatile world of printmaking, designed specifically for beginners. Participants will explore the unique graphic qualities of four print processes: relief, monotypes, drypoint and screen printing. Through a mix of demonstrations and studio practice, you will learn to translate your drawings and ideas into unique and beautiful prints. What You Will Learn: – Relief Printing (Linocut): You will learn to safely use carving tools to create bold, high-contrast imagery on rubber blocks – Drypoint Etching: Learn this intaglio technique by scratching detailed lines directly into an acrylic plate to produce rich, velvety textures. – Monotype Printing: Explore the most painterly form of printmaking, creating unique, one-of-a-kind “painterly” prints using additive and reductive methods. – Screen Printing (Silkscreen): Move to the basement screen studio to learn the modern classic of printmaking. We will cover image exposure, ink mixing, and printing techniques for printing on paper No prior experience is necessary. This course is ideal for anyone looking to expand their artistic practice, from illustrators and painters to hobbyists wanting to explore new mediums.
