Weaving 101

Curious about incorporating woven textiles into your work? Join local artist Amanda Rataj for a 1-day workshop to discover the basics of weaving on a rigid heddle loom. You’ll learn how to use Centre[3]’s new equipment, as well as weaving techniques that utilize colour, texture, and pattern – skills you can use to create textile art, cloth, clothes, and more. This workshops has been made possible through the support of Canada Council for the Arts.

About The Instructor:

Amanda Rataj is an artist and arts educator based in Hamilton, Ontario with a BFA from the Ontario College of Art and Design University. Recent exhibitions include Crosscurrents: Canada In the Making at the Textile Museum of Canada (2018), and Nothing is Newer Than Tradition (Art Gallery of Burlington, 2017). Amanda has been an artist in residence at the Icelandic Textile Arts Centre, and recently studied at Kawashima Textile School in Kyoto, Japan.
